Your Opportunity
Stantec is looking to fill the role of Air Quality Field Specialist to join our Environmental Services team in our Fredericton, NB office. The successful candidate will primarily support our stack emissions testing team, traveling to industrial facilities across Atlantic Canada to conduct emissions testing in compliance with regulatory guidelines and test methods. The job requires a motivated, organized, technically oriented individual with strong analytical and oral and written communication skills, looking to develop a career in the consulting industry and who is willing to travel on a regular basis.
There are also opportunities to support other work that the air quality team does including ambient air quality monitoring, noise monitoring, emissions inventories, and reporting, as well as supporting other environmental field services such as aquatic, archeological, remediation field surveys, when needed.
This role offers the chance to earn paid overtime or bank hours for future time off.
As part of this role, you will work with a team of world-class air quality scientists, engineers and technical specialists in the delivery of consulting services to clients across Atlantic Canada and beyond.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct field investigations at industrial sites and/or laboratory testing in a professional, safe and organized manner.
- Travel to industrial facilities around Atlantic Canada with a team of one or two other professionals. Must be willing and capable of travel requiring multiple overnight stays – travel required for 75% of work schedule as part of the testing team.
- Complete equipment maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting.
- Prepare detailed field notes and technical reports of work carried out.
- Communicate effectively with clients, coworkers and contractors.
- Be a team player who is comfortable working on multiple projects with tight deadlines that often require working overtime.
- Be able to accommodate a changing work schedule to meet client needs.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to complete basic electrical and mechanical maintenance (work with small pumps, gas analyzers, light wiring) and the ability to operate hand tools with dexterity.
- Experience with electronic troubleshooting highly desirable.
- Ability to work safely at heights including roof tops, boom lifts, scaffolding and permanent elevated work platforms.
- Strong safety culture is required. Valid safety certificates such as first aid, fall protection awareness, H2S Alive or others are an asset.
- Capable of wearing respirators, half/full face and SCBA.
- Have excellent organization skills and strong time-management skills.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe.
- Have a valid driver’s license, ability to safely drive a full-size pickup trick, haul and park a trailer (20 foot utility trailer regularly used for equipment).
- Be attentive to detail and committed to quality client service.
- Valid aerial boom lift operators training, experience an asset.
- Desire and ability to work indoors and outdoors year round as needed in all type of weather conditions.
- Desire and ability to complete physical labour when needed (equipment set-up at industrial sites, frequent stairs and ladder use climbing to heights of up to 200 ft).
- Willing to travel for work within the Atlantic provinces on a routine basis with occasional travel to remoting mining facilities.
- Safety and technical training will be provided as needed to the successful candidate.
Education and Experience
- Diploma in chemical, electrical, mechanical, engineering, or environmental technology (or equivalent experience), or a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related Sciences program.
- Experience and knowledge in the field of air quality (stack testing, indoor, ambient monitoring) is considered an asset but not required.
- Training is provided however a mechanically oriented and physically fit person is required.
