- Experience with conducting archival research, survey, testing, and/or data recovery for archaeological projects
- Previous experience with mapping equipment and other special application equipment (e.g., total station, GPS, etc.)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented, resourceful, self-motivated, and strong initiative
- Positive and energetic attitude
- 4+ years of professional experience
- Fluency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Adobe Acrobat.
- Working knowledge of mapping and ArcGIS-related programs
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or humid continental climate, including walking, digging, hiking, and carrying loads up to 50 pounds
- Variable out-of-town travel expected, may exceed 50 percent of work time, depending on project needs
- Knowledge of prehistoric and historic material culture
- Some knowledge of historic architectural styles and types
- Experience assisting with development of historic contexts for above-ground reports, including research and writing
- Excellent research and writing skills with experience using the Microsoft Word suite
- Experience using ARCGIS and/or Google Earth mapping for cultural projects
- Familiarity with Federal and State regulations and guidance relating to cultural resources
- Qualified applicants should exhibit strong technical skills, good communication skills, and feel comfortable making decisions in the field, under the guidance of mid-to-senior level staff
Education and Experience:
- B.A./B.S. in Anthropology/Archaeology, Historic Preservation, Public History, History, or closely related field
- Successful completion of an archaeology field school
- At least 4 years of experience conducting archaeological survey and excavation
