Archaeological Technician

- Conduct Phase I survey, Phase II testing, and Phase III data recovery
- Perform laboratory duties including artifact processing, classification, and curation, as well as artifact photography, database management, mapping, and report layout.
- Maintain the ability to travel between project sites and Stantec office.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel for fieldwork often for extended periods.
Education and Experience
- Pursuing or completed bachelor's or master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field.
- Previous experience in a field school or CRM setting as an archaeologist, surveyor, or similar role.
- Technical expertise or specialty within Archaeology/Anthropology is advantageous.
- Familiarity with recording field data using ESRI’s Field Maps is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of Plains and/or Midwest archaeology and field methods is preferred.
This position is primarily fieldwork, but some office work may occur. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, remote locations, summer heat, winter cold, and rough terrain; as well as bending, stooping, carrying field equipment, standing, and walking for extended periods of time, and making visual and tactile distinctions using color, texture, moisture content, depth, and distance. Ability to walk 4-10 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. When conducting non-local fieldwork, paid travel time, per diem, and single occupancy hotel rooms are provided. Stantec fleet or rental cars are often provided. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
