Your Opportunity
As part of our Environmental Services team, the Stantec Archaeology group has seasonal Archaeology Field Technicians in various offices. Archaeology Field Technicians are a part of our archaeological field team that complete and assist with field work. As a seasonal Archaeology Field Technician, the start date and end dates will vary by season.
Your Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of licensed archaeologists, Archaeology Field Technicians assume responsibility for carrying out archaeological field work under current provincial and professional requirements.
This can include assisting with:
- Archaeological assessments; − Test pit survey: hand excavation test pits along specified intervals to identify archaeological resources. − Pedestrian survey: field walking at specified intervals to identify archaeological resources.
- Hand excavation of archaeological test units.
- Staking out archaeological grids.
- Recording and interpretation of stratigraphy.
- In-field artifact identification.
- Transportation of Stantec vehicles and equipment to work sites.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Physically demanding and strenuous fieldwork in the outdoors.
- Minimum two years experience conducting archaeological research in the field
- Archaeology Field Technicians travel within Atlantic Canada and work out-of-town and overnight for short and long durations.
- A full G driver’s license in good standing is preferred, and licensed drivers may be required to drive company vehicles as part of their work.
Education and Experience
- Current undergraduate or graduate students in anthropology or archaeology are encouraged to apply, but not a requirement.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
