Your Opportunity

The role of a Bridge Leader is to lead engineering teams on large projects. They will be responsible for preparing designs and ensuring the development and delivery of successful structural projects such as bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, subway stations, railroad infrastructure and public spaces.

The Bridge Leader will manage through subordinate supervisors to coordinate work activities and assignments for the department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. Will provide guidance on direction of work, make decisions on staff selection, training, evaluation and discipline decisions.

The Bridge Leader will be responsible for managing the scope and integration of subcontractors and employees. It is expected that the Regional Bridge Leader supports business development and the delivery of proposals. When necessary, will plan, design, and direct structural engineering projects. Provides resources and schedules in response to specified completion dates and technical applications. Prepares proposals and cost estimates and evaluates all project progress and recommends changes, if needed, in final procedures.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manages multi-discipline projects completely, including the managing of client relationship and bringing in new clients
  • Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating complex assignments independently, modification of established guidelines, and the initiation of new approaches
  • Makes independent decisions on work methods and procedures within the Transportation practice/structural specialization
  • Provides input into transportation practice improvement initiatives
  • Stays up to date on regulatory changes and may establish working relationships with regulatory officials
  • Exercises initiative in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual problem situations and resolve most conflicts
  • Provides technical assistance in resolving complex problems and decision making
  • Responsible for the review and sealing of projects
  • Responsible for invoicing, managing, and monitoring financial performance of project budgets using PM dashboard access
  • May write and negotiate proposals as project issues arise with clients or reviewing agencies
  • Liaises with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and initiative in the interpretation of policies and the planning and execution of projects
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Lead teams in project management of complex multiple concurrent projects
  • Expert level knowledge of directives, programs, standards, and administrative procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
  • Proficient in relevant bridge  and structural design/analysis software
  • Possesses broad technical knowledge within the transportation practice, structure engineering sciences
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule
  • Expert level understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions
  • Ability to lead, participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others
  • Technical expert in all relevant areas of design and understanding of various design methods
  • Ability to make independent decisions on highly technical or complex work methods and procedures within transportation practice/structural specialization

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or related field & Licensed Professional Engineer. Advanced degrees preferred.  Minimum of 25 years of experience.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
