Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists in our Ottawa, ON office for a highly motivated new graduate for CAD Designer - Land Development Technologist/Engineering Graduate.  As the successful candidate, you possess a strong desire to create new high quality communities and site developments through your participation in a motivated design team setting.  

Your Key Responsibilities

You will report to a Project Manager and have design responsibilities that include: 

  • Preparing preliminary and detailed grading and servicing design drawings, for Subdivision, Commercial and Institutional land development projects 
  • Formulating earthwork quantity analysis and soil management processes (erosion and sediment control)
  • Preparing complete submission packages, supporting calculations, cost estimates, project schedules, and other duties
  • Preparing / assisting with construction tender/contract documents
  • Coordinating design components with other disciplines, and possible work with other offices (possibly involving some travel)
  • Collecting field data to support engineering and water resources projects
  • Providing design ideas and solutions and perform preliminary quality control of construction documents
  • Assisting with construction site inspections and meetings
  • Assisting with resolution of technical issues on construction sites

Your Capabilities and Credentials

As the successful candidate, you are a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and take pride in your work. 

  • A comprehensive working knowledge and experience with Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with subdivision, site plan and/or municipal engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of the local geographic area and area municipality design standards is an asset
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Map and GIS is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel is an asset

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a design or contract admin role within a land development or construction environment
  • A graduate of a College or University program, ideally in civil technology /civil engineering or related field
