Your Opportunity

The Water Resources EIT - Watershed and River Hydraulics will work as a team member for larger Flood Risk Program projects. The candidate should have an interest in FEMA’s Risk MAP programs or other floodplain management initiatives. The engineer will perform a variety of complex tasks which may include hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, calculations, fieldwork, coordination of tasks, and personnel. The projects assigned may be complex, broad, varied, and diverse in scope.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Will support aspects of Stantec’s Flood Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) projects and similar projects such as regulatory and non-regulatory product development for long-duration projects.
  • May support watershed-wide Flood Risk MAP projects, Conditional Letters of Map Revisions (CLOMRs), Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs), and No-Rise Analyses.
  • May work on multiple projects of average complexity/size.
  • Perform complex engineering design/analysis tasks on assigned projects under the supervision of the Project Technical Lead or Project Manager, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, engineering drawings/figures, engineering reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
  • Engage in the development of Flood Insurance Study reports Profiles, Floodway Data Tables, work maps, and databases.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and cost estimating.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own tasks.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the discipline.
  • Prepare portions of engineering project proposals, change orders, client contact, and communication pertaining to specific projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Has an understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of FEMA floodplain studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (1D & 2D modeling), and stormwater management.
  • Possess time management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include ArcGIS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM/XPSWMM (or other modeling software).
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to check their work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Possesses leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field. 
  • EIT or ability to acquire licensure within 12-months of hire.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
