Stantec is actively seeking eager, enthusiastic candidates for a full-time Civil Engineer In Training position with our transportation group. The work will be challenging and rewarding as you contribute to design and construction projects with the guidance of our more seasoned engineers. 

We need you to be ready to build on the solid technical skills you learned in university, in life and other career steps. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include analysis, calculations, report preparation, community exhibits, and documents to support construction. These assignments may be broad, varied, diverse in scope and are expected to help you grow to in confidence and technical ability supporting our local, state, and global transportation projects. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare utility composite plans, utility relocation plans 
  • Develop, compile and organize applicable utility design requirements
  • Develop utility relocation exhibits and other documentation to aid in right-of-way acquisition
  • Prepare utility relocation plans with horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Develop feasible utility relocation design alternatives to be compared against significant project parameters such as site conditions, right-of-way requirements, roadway designs, design standards, and cost
  • Assemble lists of construction items, quantities and costs
  • Assemble specifications for construction items
  • Develop, update and distribute utility relocation reports to provide design status and other project milestones
  • Serve as design engineer on local surface transportation projects
  • Support multi-discipline design teams on larger facility and transportation projects
  • Identify and analyze the principal roadway design features and major design alternatives that satisfy the project’s purpose and the client’s needs
  • Participate in project meetings, develop meeting notes and provide utility updates in project meetings
  • Prepare geometric designs with horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Prepare signing, striping, lighting designs and details
  • Develop feasible roadway design alternatives to be compared against significant project parameters such as site conditions, right-of-way requirements, utility conflicts, design standards, and cost
  • Produce detailed, high-quality final design plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with applicable procedures and standards
  • Participate with quality control reviews of technical contract documents
  • Utilize CAD software in development of two- and three-dimensional models
  • Prepare and revises documentation in planning, design and construction project phases
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience with CAD (Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads, and InRoads a plus)
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and knowledge with roadway design a plus
  • Road drainage design and analysis experience a plus
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • No prior experience in transportation design engineering required, local project resume and experience preferred

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
