Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an entry level Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineer with 0-3 years of experience for our Fargo, ND location. This position will offer opportunities to work on a wide array of projects in the industrial, commercial, solid waste, and food/agri-business sectors. This position will primarily perform construction observations and documentation, field sampling, and other related tasks during the construction/field season. The position will also assist with preparation of construction plans and specifications, project reporting, and other environmental compliance related tasks, as required. Work will be completed under the direct supervision of a Licensed Engineer. The ideal candidate would have the ability to perform duties including construction observations, documenting observations with field notes, interpreting construction plans and specifications, coordinating field survey work, and exhibiting positive contractor and client relations in the office and the field. The start date for this position is Spring 2025.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction observations, field testing, and field measurements
- Document construction activities, progress, and correspondence
- Interpret construction plans and specifications
- Assess subsurface conditions, including soil and rock properties and including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data and other field documentation
- Collect soil and groundwater samples; perform field screening as applicable
- Perform field nuclear density and moisture testing
- Assist with field related survey tasks to obtain boundary, topography, GIS data collection, geodetic control, etc.
- Communicate with the project team and stakeholders (verbally and written)
- Develop construction progress reports and communicate with the project team, contractor, and client as required
- Assist with developing plan sets and specifications for civil design projects (civil site, grading, drainage, erosion control, etc. and design reports)
- Assist with geotechnical or geological engineering analysis and assessments of slopes, foundations, dams, or levees
- Assist with environmental compliance and operational reporting for solid waste, industrial manufacturing facilities, and/or food and agri-business facilities
- Work as part of a team to ensure objectives are met
- Provide assistance to other functional areas within Stantec as business needs dictate/arise to support and contribute to the continued success of Stantec
- Maintain positive client/public relations both in the office and in the field
- Prepare technical documents using MS Word, and Excel
- Perform stormwater modeling for civil design projects using HydroCAD software
- Perform water balance modeling using HELP model or similar software
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent computer and technical skills
- Experience with utilizing a tablet and various applications to promote paperless documentation procedures
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Hardworking and enjoys learning
- Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, to accommodate schedules
- Ability to travel to other offices and project sites, including extended overnight stays out of town or out of state, as needed; field work may take place in remote locations with minimal amenities available
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Geology, Environmental Science or Science related field is required
- 0-3 years of experience in related field
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred
- Experience with nuclear density gauges is preferable
- Experience with Trimble GPS equipment is preferable
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and do repetitive work such as lifting bending standing for long periods of time. Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
