Your Opportunity
This role has the possibility of a hybrid work schedule.
The role of a Civil Engineer - Roadways is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The Civil Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer transportation systems for public clients such as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
A Civil Engineer will provide immediate supervision and guidance to a group of employees, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals for accuracy and completeness; and maintaining schedules.
A Civil Engineer will perform a variety of roadway related tasks which may include the development of plans, designs, specifications, and estimates. Examples of design related tasks include roadway geometrics, storm drainage, storm water management, erosion control, traffic signals, and traffic control.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Performs more complex engineering design tasks on relevant civil engineering elements including the design of roadways, drainage, grading, etc. under supervision of Project Engineer or Project Manager, including engineering drawings, engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies.
- May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the others.
- Manages the design and construction of projects and provides input.
- Attends and assists in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.
- Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel.
- Coordinates with the regulatory agencies to seek final approval.
- Trains less experienced team members in day-to-day activities including routine technical design, processing and company procedures.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Comprehensive understanding of all phases of project development for PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission projects.
- Working knowledge of PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission design criteria.
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
- Possesses excellent time-management skills, thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
- Proficient in Microstation, as well as relevant design software programs which may include InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, AutoTURN, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, and PondPack.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Must have prior experience working on PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission project experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience.
The position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some fieldwork.
