Stantec’s New England Transportation group is looking for a Civil Engineering Technician in South Burlington, VT!

You will be working with a dynamic group of people including high energy junior engineers who are also learning and sharing knowledge. As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will contribute to a variety of projects ranging from conceptual design through to construction services. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the plans, designs and construction administration/support of structures and facilities such as bridges, railroads, roads, airports, other projects.
What Will You be Doing?
- Completing various design and drafting tasks for structural and transportation projects.
- Prepare contract drawings and support the development of tender specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, studies, evaluations and cost estimates.
- Assist with or performing periodic field reviews and site visits when required.
- Provide topographic layouts, cross-sectional surveys, and calculate quantities including earthworks (excavation, backfill, stockpiles), water volumes and surface areas, construction layouts, drainage surveys, and road surveys.
- Provide occasional inspection assistance to bridge inspectors and testers.
- Review shop drawings and other support documents for design review and construction.
What Will You Need to Succeed?
- Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD and Excel spreadsheets or proficiency with other relevant design software programs will be an asset. Experience in Inroads or Civil 3D will have higher consideration.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, common sense, creativity and innovation.
- Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Completion of a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or similar program considered an asset.
- 2 years working experience in structural or transportation engineering fields preferred.
- Field construction experience related to bridges, roads, land development or other heavy civil engineering projects will be an asset.
