Your Opportunity

Our Tempe, Arizona Mining group has a need for a Civil/Structural Engineer.  As of late 2018, the Stantec office will be relocated to the new Chandler Veridian building, in Chandler, AZ. You would be a key member of the civil/structural team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations.  You would have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects both domestic and international.

Your Key Responsibilities

CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

  • Structural design and analysis to applicable codes.  Typical structures include headframes, hoist houses, collar houses, conveyor galleries, equipment foundations, bins, shaft steel structures, and other mine related infrastructure.

  • Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics.

  • Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.

  • Completion of site inspections and condition assessments for mining infrastructure.

  • Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.

  • Working with designers on the project collaboratively to achieve design drawings with appropriate level of detail.

  • Interfacing with other disciplines and project management to execute projects as per the project plan. Site development including roadways and drainage design.

You will demonstrate your commitment to safety on a daily basis through actions and involvement in our employees’ work, by ensuring compliance to the company safety programs and initiatives, and strictly adhering to rules, regulations and procedures. Your personal commitment to safety will help us achieve our ultimate goal of zero harm within our operations.

  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its Clients.

  • Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients;

Your Capabilities and Credentials

 

As the ideal candidate, you have:

 

  • Strength in analysis and design including structural steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations. 
  • Proficiency in use of STAAD Pro and/or RISA.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere.

  • Experience completing inspections and condition assessments of concrete and steel structures.

  • Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices is an asset.

  • Knowledge of Civil 3D, RVIT and/or AutoCAD an asset

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.
A Professional Engineering license in the State of Arizona (or the ability to obtain an Arizona license through reciprocity).  Licensure in other states such as New Mexico, Utah and Colorado are an asset.

5 - 15 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface and/or underground mining.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
