Your Opportunity

In the role of Civil Engineering Technologist Student, this individual will contribute to a multi-disciplinary team on the design and delivery of land development projects within Saskatchewan and Alberta. These rewarding projects will provide an opportunity for the successful student to learn and expand their engineering skills. Your Key Responsibilities

Land development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture and construction disciplines.  It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great communities for our clients and for future residents.  The details of the plans and designs must be supported by the local municipalities approving authority and working closely with their representatives is instrumental in the efficient advancement of the design and construction process.  We are seeking team members who are motivated to learn how to best maneuver in this exciting environment.  The responsibilities listed below are both broad ranging and are an excellent opportunity to increase your technical understanding.

  • Prepare drawings and figures as required using AutoCAD Civil 3D software to support the project team.
  • With guidance, prepare designs for site grading and site servicing including water distribution, sanitary sewers, storm water management, noise attenuation and erosion control design.
  • Complete tasks including cut and fill calculations, turning movements, and flow calculations for the design of wastewater and storm sewer systems.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control review on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Coordinate and review the design of shallow utilities.
  • Participate and collaborate in a project team setting and able to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Contribute to project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, clients, and other various project stakeholders as required, including accountability to schedule milestones
  • Construction survey staking, inspection, supporting senior field staff
  • May be required to act as an on-site observer for construction projects which includes interacting with contractors, surveyors, and municipal staff as well as reviewing drawings and survey grade sheets

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong team player that is open minded and willing to collaborate to achieve objectives.
  • Position will primarily work in an office setting; however, this position will require field work during peak construction season.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, and take direction as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and BlueBeam Revu is strongly preferred, with a willingness to learn additional software skills for relevant design software.

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a civil engineering technologist, municipal design or project management / construction project management program or registered in an engineering undergraduate program, preferably with a Civil Engineering major, in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of their program.
  • A valid Class 5 Canadian Drivers License is required
