Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists in Atlantic Canada for a Construction Administrator/Development Project Manager with a primary focus on managing construction activities across Eastern Ontario and Atlantic Provinces.  As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the construction management and coordination of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional development projects varying in status from concept through to construction.  You will be the prime contact on your projects with the client, approval agencies and others and you will use your technical and leadership abilities to lead a project team of designer, inspectors, and engineers across various provinces. 

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Works closely with design professionals in coordinating the planning and implementation of the project and obtaining necessary permits and licenses for timely opening of site.
  • Responsible for leading the team in monitoring the progress of the project’s construction activities ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Inspects and reviews projects during construction to monitor conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
  • Communicates with and makes recommendations to Project Manager, design professionals, client, owner, developer, or contractor, but does not direct the means or methods of construction.
  • Provides the Project Manager with updates on project progress or delays to client, design professionals, and/or contractor.
  • Reviews change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability.
  • Reviews requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
  • Manages deadlines, prioritizes assignments, and prepares final documentation for closeout process.
  • Prepares documents and maintains file management of project-related information including, but not limited to, correspondence, reports, videos and pictures.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned to a Project Manager such as:
  • Guiding projects through to completion, whether it is due diligence/feasibility work, preliminary/conceptual design, detailed design, scheduling, tendering and construction.
  • Contributing technical direction, design review and detailed design on numerous simultaneous land development files and providing quality review of deliverables.
  • Assisting in preparation of design reports in support of potential land development projects.
  • Liaising with clients, agencies and others to obtain approvals.
  • Supervision and mentoring of designers, technologists, field and administrative staff.
  • Ensuring that the clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Undertaking business development and promotional activities with new and existing clients as needed.
  • Project Management, including control and management of the financial aspects of your projects. 

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Capability of overseeing projects from design to completion.
  • Self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and can prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrated ability to manage projects and clients is essential.
  • Advanced knowledge in all relevant areas of construction and understanding of various design and construction methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with contractor, project team and clients, including ability to resolve conflict situations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to lead in a collaborative project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to others.
  • Excellent organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of critical path method scheduling.
  • Experience with GPS and total station survey equipment would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience.
  • Position will work in office and field setting. Visits construction sites across Atlantic Provinces and works in outside weather conditions.
