Your Opportunity

The successful candidate will work in the GTA on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction inspection role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. These projects consist of construction of water, sewer and stormwater pipelines, water and sewer rehabilitation, pipeline construction by trenchless technologies, sitework for municipal water and sewer facilities, road construction, stormwater management facilities, infrastructure systems including treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure. Please note: This is a seasonal position and work hours may vary depending on construction schedules.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide an on-site presence to represent Stantec and the client by observing and review projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
  • Provide instruction to the Contractor on requests for information and identify deficiencies in the Contractor’s work.
  • Monitor the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Ensure construction safety practices on-site meet or exceed Health & Safety policies and plans.
  • Provide updates and make recommendations to Project Manager, design professionals and client as directed.
  • Prepare daily and monthly construction progress reports and keep detailed records of daily activities.
  • Perform field measurements and keep record of contractor’s material and labor at site.
  • Keep record of as-built redline drawings and verify with the contractor on a regular basis.
  • Review conflicts, requests for information, construction issues and liaise with the rest of the project team to find solutions and prepare responses.
  • Review change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for timely opening of site.
  • Assist Contract administrator in review of construction submittals and Contractor progress payment requests.
  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working knowledge of local, and provincial building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling.
  • An excellent working knowledge of English in written and verbal form.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate in the construction industry or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • P.Eng. or CET or NASSCO certification would be considered an asset.
  • Computer Aided Design software skills would be considered an asset.

Position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.
