Corporate Counsel
About the role
Our Asia Pacific Risk Management team is highly respected in our business, and our advice is actively sought out. We have a vacancy for a Corporate Counsel to lead the delivery of legal and risk management support to our fast paced and exciting Buildings Business Line in Australia. This role can be based in either our Sydney or Brisbane office.
You will support the full gambit of projects, from specialist services such as sustainability and acoustics, through to large social infrastructure projects working with contractors on ECI, PPP and Joint Ventures. You will have the support of the regions Managing Counsel, and a team of paralegals to assist in the delivery of services and also have exposure to work across our broader Australian and Asia Pacific business as needed
Day to day tasks would involve:
- Advise on Stantec’s project engagements - including contract review, negotiation and risk management practices.
- Claims and dispute management
- Assisting and advising on day-to-day project issues including variation and EOT claims
- Development and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to legal and governance matters
- Management of external law firms
- Training on legal and governance matters to Stantec employees
- Providing high quality strategic advice on the legal risks and issues associated with Stantec’s business in Australia.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
- 8 – 10 years of general commercial law experience gained in a quality legal firm environment, or in house.
- Commercially savvy with a solutions-based focus with respect to contract and risk issues.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong client delivery focus
- A good understanding of legal and commercial aspects of contracts, with a specific focus on engineering consultancy or construction projects.
- Experience in disputes and professional indemnity and public liability claims
- Demonstrated experience on Design and Construct Projects
- A thorough understanding of relevant Australian legislation
- Be qualified to practice in Australia
