Your Opportunity

Our Puerto Rico office is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Electrical Engineer will work on a broad spectrum of physical electrical, protection and control aspects of multiple projects that may include planning and studies, new & retrofit installations, upgrades to existing systems, testing, commissioning, and system optimization.

 Your Key Responsibilities

Candidate must have basic working knowledge of the following: low, medium and high voltage power systems, motor control concepts and functionality, AIS/GIS substations, substations auxiliary power, grounding and lightning protection, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, lighting, detailed design deliverables, construction contract administration and support, and commissioning activities for different type of projects that may include transmission and distribution power systems, renewable energy projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, industrial facilities, commercial and residential facilities, and others both in the private and public sectors. 

Candidate shall:

  • Have the ability to adapt to different clients’ design standards.
  • Be responsible for assistance with proposal requests, developing design and construction engineering fees, and report writing
  • Complete condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
  • Assist in collection of field data in the form of photographs/videos/facility drawings/drawing markups.
  • Assist in preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including the following:  utility interconnection, substation design, electrical system protection and coordination, MV power distribution, MV motor control, standby power systems design, LV power distribution, LV motor control, Instrumentation and Control, building services (lighting, security, etc.), AC and DC systems, grounding, conduits/trenches and equipment layouts
  • Assist in carrying out electrical design calculations under supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Assist with preparation of contract documentation including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives
  • Participate in technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents.
  • Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, assisting Stantec and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise (GPR), harmonics, etc.), completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings
  • Coordinate electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.), vendors, and outside design team members.
  • Collaborate with internal designers/drafters' team.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent working knowledge of local electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Understanding of MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies and electrical system protection theories and applications.
  • Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and fulfill client expectations.
  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects. Strong organizational, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to be a part of cross-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals
  • Introduction to or experience in project management considered an asset
  • Strong communication skills are required for this role
  • Field review and commissioning exposure or experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with MS office suite and MS project
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish

Your Education and Experiences

  • Minimum B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
  • 0 to 5 years of electrical design experience – Understanding of design and implementation of MV, LV, and HV electrical systems including substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation, as well as working knowledger of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration. 
  • Excellent working knowledge of local electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Understanding of MV, LV, and HV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies and electrical system protection theories and applications.

Typical office environment, working with computers and drawings for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to hazards including construction, weather, and industrial operations that may be experienced at water and/or wastewater related facilities.
