Your Opportunity
You will work as an intermediate Electrical Engineer in Training, reporting to a P.Eng. team lead to deliver on buildings projects throughout the province and country. The candidate would support in the design of electrical systems for buildings including design, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems or products in compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices, including scopes in power, emergency power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications systems.
You will perform a variety of tasks including providing drawings & calculations, report writing and attendance in meetings with both internal and external clients.
The ideal candidate will have ideally performed this role in the past, with at least 2 years experience delivering on projects with CAD and Revit proficiencies. The candidate will have been exposed to the proficiencies listed and would be comfortable explaining the basics of each to colleagues and potential clients.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in the design and coordination of projects of varying complexity/size.
- Coordination with the lead engineer to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer electrical systems or products for a project, including power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications.
- Engages in the development of a design from preliminary concepts through the construction document stage.
- Understanding of Revit/BIM technologies in development of models of building electrical systems
- Ability to apply or delegate designs for engineers and technologists/technicians utilizing CAD or Revit.
- Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors, providing good knowledge of the designed Electrical systems
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assists with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Assists in the preparation and coordination of project specifications.
- Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Ability to document design decisions and calculations performed
- Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group.
- Works on multiple projects.
- Ideally a new P.Eng. or EIT / AScT working towards ability to function as a full P.Eng / P.L.Eng.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Comprehensive knowledge and application of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes.
- Understanding and experience with all phases of project document production and the drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge and experience with electrical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with power studies including short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Presentation and interview skills.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering / Integrated Engineering / Engineering Physics OR Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the Buildings Industry.
- EIT, AScT, P.Eng., P.L.Eng. an asset
- For security clearances, a demonstrated residency in Canada for at least 10 years is an asset
Typical office environment work. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
