About the role

Stantec’s Water team in New Zealand has an impressive portfolio of successful projects that benefit communities nationwide and beyond, with significant contributions to international work. Our water focus covers the management of drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and groundwater as a collective resource. Dams and hydropower are a key focus, driving resilience and renewable energy solutions. Tackling our water challenges is crucial, and our diverse local network includes over 360 water specialists dedicated to innovation.

We are looking for an Engineering Geologist who is looking for their next challenge, enjoys site work and being involved in large, complex projects which we have in the pipeline.

You'll join a team of engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers where you will be supported by our Geotechnical leadership to deliver great outcomes on projects relating to three waters and transportation infrastructure.

A typical week could see you planning and undertaking site investigations, carrying out geotechnical assessments, preparing and analysing ground models, delivering detailed technical engineering geological reports and overseeing the construction of geotechnical structures. You'll assist the team with providing advice to clients and input to successful project solutions.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  •  Scope, plan, programme, and co-ordinate ground investigations to obtain geological information to inform design and construction of projects.

  •  Analyse soil, rock, groundwater, and other geologic data to determine geotechnical risks, ground behaviour, and their impact on engineering projects.

  • Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and reports for project planning and design.

  • Advise on the suitability of sites for various construction projects based on geological findings.

  • Develop risk assessments related to geological and natural hazards like landslides, earthquakes, erosion, and subsidence.

  • Monitor and interpret data from field investigations and laboratory tests.

  • Collaborate with engineers and planners to incorporate geological data into project designs.

  • Maintain communication and develop ongoing contacts with clients as required.
