Your Opportunity

Stantec’s environmental services group is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Grants Management Specialist within the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region to support our review of grants for environmental and historic preservation compliance. The primary duty of this role is to support our nationwide team providing guidance and review support for incoming grants and data quality documentation for a wide range of grant projects.

As a member of our team, you will conduct environmental and historic preservation reviews of grants in support of federal grant programs. The candidate must demonstrate experience in analysis and review of technical documents. You must be able to communicate to a diverse array of stakeholders with varied technical expertise, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and be comfortable with in-depth document review/analysis. The selected candidate will provide support on a variety of projects and subject matters. Responsibilities will include methodology review, technical review and guidance, and outreach. This position involves working as a part of a team of people supporting projects across the United States. The position is affiliated with our Laurel, MD office. Remote work would be considered for the right candidate.

As an Environmental Scientist/Grants Management Specialist, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other technical specialists and collaborate with scientists, planners, and engineers. This position is primarily office work with limited travel requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a source for independent review of environmental projects for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act for federal grants to ensure grant applicants are meeting environmental and historic preservation compliance requirements.
  • Reviewing and critiquing technical reports presenting results from field investigations and developing appropriate applications/consultations necessary for various regulatory approvals.
  • Assist project manager with QA/QC tasks, project compliance tracking, agency consultations.
  • Assist with and prepare portions of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations for grantees as well as client and regulatory agency review.
  • Record, enter, organize, manage, and review project information.
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, grantees, project managers, and project staff.
  • Perform additional project support duties as needed.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with or supporting federal and/or state agencies, NGOs and grant applicants.
  • Experience with creating templates, guidelines, checklists, and other artifacts to establish repeatable processes for Quality Assurance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex and technical information to a wide variety of project stakeholders.
  • The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration to their own and the team's safety.
  • Capable of writing reports at the professional level.
  • Ability to assist with agency and client coordination.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experienced at working well in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team atmosphere and independently as required.
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills.
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined.

Education and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in communications, grants management, environmental science, environmental studies, or related field.
  • Technical writing and critical review experience.
