Your Opportunity

Join Stantec’s Government Services team in Solana Beach to play an integral role as a Junior Level Environmental Scientist/Planner. This is a temporary summer internship role reporting to Stantec’s Solana Beach, CA office.

Candidate would engage and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to prepare a range of environmental and/or planning products related to topics such as sustainability, climate change, and renewable technology. With support and training provided by team leaders, responsibilities would include contributing to environmental technical documents through research, analysis, and writing to evaluate the impacts of projects proposed on federally-owned lands. The candidate must have a can-do attitude and be able to work under occasionally stressful conditions (i.e. when there are deadlines). Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is strongly desirable.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with conducting research.
  • Contribute to the preparation of environmental analyses in technical documents.
  • Prepare other project documentation as required.
  • Conduct fieldwork on occasion.
  • Assist Environmental Services teammates and Project Managers in the management of various environmental projects.
  • Administrative tasks (file management, document control, and distribution, etc.)
  • Assist with data management and preparation of reports.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Good organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong technical writing skills (use of references, bibliographies, correct spelling, accurate grammar, etc.), analytical and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet firm deadlines with accountability and ample communication.
  • Ability to acquire background clearance sufficient to gain entry to military installations and/or controlled access facilities.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Position requires pre-employment drug screen.
  • Experience with the following would be considered assets:
  • Motivated to learn new skills quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team setting, or independently.
  • Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel within the U.S.

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree.  
  • Two years of education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science (botany, wildlife, water resources, geology, biology), Community/Urban Planning, Environmental Policy, or a closely related field.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
