Field Survey Technician - Crew Chief

Our Las Cruces, NM office has an opportunity for a Field Survey Crew Chief within our Geospatial Group.
You will work in a team environment and supervise other members on the survey crew. You should have prior experience performing boundary, ALTA, topographic, transportation, and construction surveys utilizing modern equipment and surveying technologies. This position has opportunity for advancement for a motivated individual willing to grow with the changing skills and technology.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Daily coordination with field supervisor, project managers and other office staff.
- Independently perform surveying assignments, making exact measurements, and providing data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimension of land or land features.
- Operate and maintain vehicle and all instruments and measuring devices including levels, robotic total stations, GPS equipment and data collectors.
- Transfer survey data to the proper files in the computer network and acquires data for field use.
- Supervise all members of the survey field crew, ensure proper safety protocols are followed, completion dates and budgets are met and ensure consistent application of firm operating standards and procedures.
- Will be provided a company vehicle to reach jobsites.
- May require out-of-town work on a periodic basis.
- Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Identify hazardous situations and apply sound judgement in safety procedures and company standards.
- Continually advance knowledge with upgrades in procedures, technology, and equipment.
- May assist in preparation of survey drawings using AutoCAD and/or related software.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Well-developed understanding of field survey methods and calculations.
- Solid understanding of local survey laws, rules, and regulations
- Experience performing field boundary, topographic, land title surveys, and construction staking.
- Ability to use Leica, Trimble, and other GPS, data collectors, total stations, robotics, and relevant survey equipment.
- Experience in use of ground penetrating radar and other designating equipment a plus.
- Strong skills in time management, organization, and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record required.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and occasional travel.
- Safety footwear & appropriate clothing is a requirement. Stantec will provide safety vests, hard hats & and additional safety equipment required.
Education and Experience
- A minimum experience of 1-year as a Crew Chief, Senior Chainman, or Instrument Operator
- Post-secondary education in a Geomatics or Civil program would be considered a significant asset.
- Experience with Trimble Data Collectors, robotics and GPS software preferred.
- Experience using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD / Civil 3D, and other office software a plus
- Position will primarily be field work and may require office work, periodic travel and out of town work.
