Your Opportunity
Fire Protection Engineers plan, design, and direct engineering projects that prevent, detect, control or reduce fire and smoke in buildings and structures. They asses the fire protection needs within projects and create drawings and schematics of projects using computer-aided design (CAD) or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. A Fire Protection Engineer performs engineering work under close supervision requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out a sequence of related fire protection engineer tasks such as the preparation of plans, designs, and calculations in accordance with established codes and standards. The role applies professional concepts and expands upon learning while performing various phases of engineering work receiving detailed instruction.
Your Key Responsibilities
Use knowledge of general concepts of fire protection engineering elements to support engineering projects that may include fire protection systems (sprinkler systems, including wet, dry and preauction systems), standpipe systems, clean agent systems, fire pumps, and water supply evaluation/design.
- Perform basic calculations to analyze and design engineering system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Assist team in preparing engineering designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports, and gather information to support design decisions.
- Assist in basic interpretation and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
- Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer.
- Assist the team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
- Perform field work related to installation related activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of Building codes and NFPA standards.
- Knowledge of fire protection systems.
- Participates and collaborates in project team setting with internal and external clients.
- Strong technical writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree Engineering
- With three years of related work experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- EIT (Engineer in Training) required, working towards obtaining P.E. licensure.
