Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Demonstrated experience in producing defensible and understandable viewshed mapping and analyses.
- Experience producing exhibits required by the National Environmental Policy Act, State Environmental Quality Reviews, Article VII of the New York State Public Service Law, and Article 10 and Section 94-c applications
- Demonstrated experience in the proper use of light detection and ranging (Lidar) datasets
- Extensive experience with Esri GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcView, ArcInfo, Network Analyst, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst) and the programming languages specific to the Esri product line (python, Model Builder)
- Programming experience in python (including Scipy, Pyplot, Matplotlib, numpy, pyXML libraries)
Desired Skills
- Strong ability to interpret and use site plans, topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other maps and mapping resources
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to communicate/coordinate with staff located across the United States and Canada
- A strong work ethic, a desire for team success, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microstation software and file formats
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud line of multimedia products including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator
- Application of Internet/Web skills including HTML, VBScript, and JavaScript coding, XML document design, XSL Transformation language, and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) software
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography; Environmental Science / Studies or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Al least 10 years of successfully conducting viewshed maps and associates analyses technically complex projects
- A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
The role is mainly to be conducted in an office setting, and travel may be required. Time spent in the office environment will include prolonged sitting and computer work. The potential exists to participate in field evaluations, depending on candidate, which could involve standing for long periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to inclement weather.
