Your Opportunity

We are looking to add a full-time geological/geotechnical engineer or engineering geologist to the Energy & Resources group in Walnut Creek, California.  If working on the most challenging water and natural resources projects around the world, building on your talents through a premier knowledge-sharing culture, and connecting across borders with some of the world’s top talent appeals to you, join us. 

The successful candidate would work on challenging and diverse tasks for dams, hydroelectric projects, tunnels, and water resource projects for a variety of domestic and international clients. The successful candidate would be working in conjunction with other engineers and geologists on multi-discipline teams to support project activities through the application of engineering and geologic principles and techniques. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position requires travel to project sites and field work, and will provide stimulating career growth opportunities

Your Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in the office and the field in a safe manner.
  • Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and other professionals to solve project challenges and performing design calculations as required. 
  • Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research (i.e., desktop study, field reconnaissance) to assess challenges and assist in the development of the basis of geological/geotechnical understanding of the program to support the project as it progresses.
  • Support field investigation programs.
  • Support geologic mapping on various types of field programs.
  • Contribute to various phases of programs, including the following types of projects: design, inspection and construction of dams, tunnels, caverns, foundations, slopes, and earth-retaining structures.
  • Learn to assess subsurface conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, geophysics, and other field documentation, evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.
  • Interested to learn how to conduct geomechanical and geotechnical analyses using programs such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, Phase2, SEEP/W and SLOPE/W.
  • Proficiency in GIS and CAD applications, is a plus.
  • Contributed to technical reports including geotechnical data reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Participate in professional development and training activities.
  • Provide field engineering geology support for projects during construction.
  • Willing to locate out of our Walnut Creek, California office.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • 0 - 4 years’ work experience in engineering geology, geological or geotechnical engineering. Dams experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Geological Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer license or Professional Geologist license planned in future. 
  • Working knowledge of the principles of engineering geology and/or geological engineering. Previous exposure to soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geotechnical earthquake engineering topics is a plus.
  • Willing and able to travel, nationally and internationally to conduct field investigation or construction quality oversight type work.
  • Some exposure to or knowledge of geotechnical analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Sound organizational, technical, written, and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working in a consulting capacity is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Education and Experience

  • 0-4 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Geological Engineering from an accredited university is required; master’s degree preferred
  • Completion of coursework in soil mechanics, geology, and technical writing is preferred.
  • GIT and/or EIT, or ability to obtain within one year
