Your Key Responsibilities
Stantec is seeking a manager for our Markham, ON geotechnical laboratory, which provides conventional and advanced field and laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage staff and other resources to perform laboratory testing.
- Maintaining staff levels to meet workload demands.
- Managing clients and projects, including communicating with internal and external clients regarding scope of services and schedule.
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment, including nuclear density gauges.
- Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL and ISO.
- Hire, train, and supervise laboratory technicians/technologists.
- Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed.
- Prepare proposals for laboratory and field services.
- Perform quality control reviews of laboratory results, and issue final reports.
- Promote safe work practices for all laboratory activities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Having previous experience as a manager in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required.
- Current registration with OACETT and PEO and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T. or P.Eng.
- Have experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures.
- Experience with MTO (Ontario Ministry of Transportation) projects and associated laboratory testing procedures would be a strong asset.
- CCIL Certification for soils, concrete would be and asset.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently.
Education and Experience
- Hold a technician/technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university.
- Minimum 8 years’ prior experience in geotechnical laboratory.
