Your Opportunity
As an Intermediate Geotechnical Technologist you will have the opportunity to work on engineering and geotechnical projects in a multi-discipline project team environment. Working in our Burnaby, British Columbia office where many of Stantec’s design projects take place, in this role the candidate will have the opportunity to exercise their technical and interpersonal skills while growing in their career. You will focus primarily performing field and laboratory QA/QC monitoring and testing services and planning and supervising geotechnical explorations under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
Your Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:
- Construction QA/QC Monitoring and Testing:
- Field and laboratory testing of soil and aggregate
- Fill placement and compaction monitoring.
- Deep and shallow foundation construction.
- Review of soil anchor testing
- Assisting in resolution of technical issues on construction sites.
- Various other QA/QC field and laboratory testing services as required
- Field and laboratory testing of soil and aggregate
- Planning and supervision of geotechnical explorations, including but not limited to:
- Mud rotary drilling
- Solid/hollow stem auger drilling
- Sonic
- Rock Coring
- Mud rotary drilling
- Vibration monitoring during heavy civil works or rock blasting
- Reporting. You will be required to regularly complete detailed field and laboratory reports and submit them to the Laboratory Supervisor / Project Manager as required.
- Task management of various projects (if required)
- Preparing GiNT logs and supporting Geotechnical Report preparation
- Proposal writing and assisting in business development initiatives
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, excel under minimal supervision, and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Valid Canadian Driver’s Licence; must be willing to provide a driver’s abstract for review
- Current registration with ASTTBC and hold designation as a C.Tech. or AScT
Education and Experience
- Hold a technician / technologist diploma from a recognized college
- At least 7 years of experience with geotechnical construction and explorations
- Current registration with ASTTBC and hold designation as a C.Tech. or AScT
- Have knowledge of soil sampling techniques and construction methodology
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
- Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently
- Highly organized, and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments, as you may be required to work overtime depending on our clients’ needs
- An understanding of ASTM standards as you will be required to know these standards to complete daily tasks
