Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. The diverse perspectives of our partners and interested parties drive us to think beyond what’s previously been done on critical issues like climate change, digital transformation, and future-proofing our cities and infrastructure.

We are designers, engineers, scientists, project managers, and strategic advisors. We innovate at the intersection of community, creativity, and client relationships to advance communities everywhere, so that together we can redefine what’s possible.

About the role

We are currently looking for two GIS Analysts to join our growing NZ team, based out of either Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington, - one supporting our Transport projects and another in our Water team.

As a GIS Analyst at Stantec, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality spatial data, analysis, and mapping outputs that support infrastructure projects across Aotearoa. Working within either our Transport or Water teams, you will contribute to projects that shape how communities move, connect, and access essential services. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to turn complex spatial data into meaningful insights that inform planning, design, and decision-making.

Day to Day aspects would involve:

  • Deliver GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualisation to support project outcomes

  • Create, manage, and maintain spatial datasets and geodatabases across platforms

  • Produce high-quality cartographic outputs and digital mapping products

  • Support project teams with GIS insights, data integration, and problem solving

  • Contribute to the development of GIS workflows, tools, and applications to improve efficiency

  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and environmental specialists to deliver integrated solutions

  • Assist in coordinating GIS tasks and ensuring delivery within time, cost, and quality expectations

Depending on your experience, you may also take ownership of GIS components of projects, contribute to technical improvements, and mentor junior team members.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in GIS or spatial analysis

  • Strong experience with GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS platform) and spatial data management

  • Proven ability to deliver mapping, spatial analysis, and data outputs for projects

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in an engineering, environmental, or infrastructure context

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Previous experience in Transport or Water infrastructure projects (desirable)

  • Exposure to web GIS, dashboards, or application development

What we offer

At Stantec, we take your growth and fulfilment seriously. We’re proud to offer many supportive benefits, including:

  • Professional development and support

  • Flexible working arrangements, including purchasing up to an extra four weeks of leave and provision for school term contracts, part-time, and job sharing

  • Learning and talent development programmes, including global, online, and on-the-job opportunities

  • Professional memberships

  • Service recognition awards

  • Mentorship

  • Wellbeing and connection opportunities

  • Health insurance, income continuance insurance, and life insurance

  • Employee assistance program

  • Developing Professionals Group, a global network for those with under 10 years of experience

  • Office Social Club and events
