Your Opportunity

You will work on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior I&C Engineer/esigner. The Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain electrical power and lighting systems or products for a project. An I&C Designer will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, and field work. The smaller projects that an I&C Designer may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements
  • Assiss in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilizes technologies in development of three dimensional models of electrical systems
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
  • Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent
  • Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks
  • Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications
  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of electrical systems and materials
  • Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants
  • Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating
  • Implements sustainable design principles
  • Performs calculations to analyze and design electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Willingness to provide guidance and leadership for Associate Designers assigned to work on common projects
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
  • An understanding of I&C design standards with control systems (DCS and PLC based architectures)
  • Sound working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code or US National Electrical Codes is considered an asset
  • Must demonstrate organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction
  • Knowledge of standard desktop software is required including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; Adobe pdf tools.
  • CAD experience – AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation – is preferred. Programming experience (Microprocessor, C++, SQL structures, etc.) is desirable
  • Field review and commissioning experience is considered an asset
  • The willingness to travel for field reviews and construction support is an asset

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering & may be working toward licensure. Minimum of 2 years of experience.

 

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
