Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineering Technologist with expertise in site development engineering to join our talented team. This role offers the opportunity to act as the civil lead on a diverse range of projects, from commercial and residential developments to public infrastructure. Your Key Responsibilities
Site development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, architecture, and construction disciplines. It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great projects for our clients and our communities. The details of the plans and designs must be supported by the local municipalities approving authority and working closely with their representatives is instrumental in the efficient advancement of the design and construction process. We are seeking team members who know how to navigate in this exciting environment.
- Effectively coordinate with the client, architects, engineers, landscape architects and involved stakeholders to develop and execute site development designs.
- Lead in the completion of detailed civil engineering drawings, including site grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, utility layouts, using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Lead the civil design and permitting processes for site development projects by ensuring compliance with local regulations, codes, and standards.
- Maintain project documentation and participate in quality assurance and quality control review on own projects and projects of peers.
- Take accountability for the project schedule and deadlines for the design and submission of civil engineering drawings.
- Conduct site inspections prior to design start to ensure designs align with project requirements.
- Respond to client and contractor inquiries during design and construction phases.
- While this role is primarily office focused, occasional site visits to active projects will be required as part of the role to troubleshoot issues during construction.
- Provide design guidance and instruction to drafting staff, and junior/intermediate designers.
- Support, mentor, and train junior technical staff in the principles of civil engineering site development.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to effectively use AutoCAD Civil 3D is required in the design and preparation of drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BlueBeam Revu.
- Strong knowledge of City of Calgary site design standards, utility guidelines, stormwater management practices, and grading design principles.
- Familiarity with the City of Calgary (and surrounding municipalities) Development Permit approval process, including understanding of the various civil engineering deliverables.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-orientated approach and strong attention to detail.
- Effective collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be a self-motivated individual possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Education and Experience
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field.
- Certified Engineering Technologist (or equivalent accreditation) preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on site development projects.
This position will primarily work in an office setting with an expectation of a minimum of four days a week based in the office. This position will require occasional field work depending on the season.
