Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in the field
- Proven technical, communication, writing and organization skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and under deadlines
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Working knowledge of current provincial and federal government regulatory requirements, particularly with respect to fish and fish habitat
- Familiarity with basic database and statistical software packages
- Safety training certificates relevant to field work (first aid, auxiliary vehicles, boating, electrofishing, etc.)
- Experience with fisheries mitigation measures (sediment and erosion control), habitat compensation and restoration, and spill response are an asset
- Secondary terrestrial (e.g. vegetation, wildlife, wetlands) field experience
- Experience in and availability for regular field work locally and in remote locations for up to 14 days at a time (or at times longer) under a variety of conditions
- Experienced working in a construction support role liaising with the project Proponent, Environmental Inspector, technical lead, and field crew(s)
- Experience conducting freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, turbidity monitoring, water quality surveys, analyzing data, and preparing technical reports
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aquatic Biology or Fisheries or from a Natural Resources or Environmental program
Registered Professional Biologist accreditation (or in progress)
Five to ten years of experience as a Fisheries Biologist or Aquatic Biologist, preferably with consulting experience
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
