Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge of British Columbia wildlife, including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds
  • Familiarity with wildlife survey methods and RISC standards and the ability to independently carry out wildlife surveys
  • Experience leading field crews
  • Experience with one or more of the following wildlife surveys:
    • Migratory bird point-count surveys in northern British Columbia
    • Migratory bird nest sweeps
    • Marbled murrelet terrestrial nest surveys
    • Pond-dwelling amphibian surveys and salvage
    • Coastal tailed frog habitat assessments and salvage
    • Remote camera set-up, maintenance, and take-down
    • Habitat and den assessments for meso-carnivores and carnivores
    • Bat acoustic monitoring and analysis (e.g., Kaleidoscope pro)
  • Understanding of remote area navigation; experience using maps, compass, GPS, and aerial photos for navigation in the field is advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to drive trucks and/or a variety of off-road vehicles in rough terrain
  • Basic knowledge of environmental legislation as it relates to British Columbia
  • Willingness to travel for project work and work in the field for up to 14 days at a time
  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/technical backgrounds including internal and external clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous groups
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, the successful passing of a drug/alcohol screen will be required

Education and Experience

Bachelor or graduate degree in biology, or a related discipline from a recognized university
Minimum of 3 years of wildlife-related experience
Must have at least 3 years of consulting experience
Experience working with the BC regulatory framework is required
Registration with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology or Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (R.P.Bio., P. Bio., R.B.Tech., or B.I.T.) preferred
Valid class 5 British Columbia driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
