Your Opportunity
The Stantec office in Yellowknife has an opportunity for an Intern Architect to become part of our integrated / multi-disciplinary Architecture and Engineering practice.
As a key contributor on our professional Architecture team in Northern Canada you will work both collaboratively and independently to assist clients through the planning and creation of fiscally responsible, award-winning designs. Your experience ensures that you are quite familiar with construction plans, specifications, estimates and building codes. You will be innovating and creating new prototypes designed with sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals. You will assist with the development of integrated design proposals, continuous updating of a building information model, preparing a variety of output / drawings throughout the project, while collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables as required under instruction from the Project Leader.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Senior Architects, develop designs for projects in a variety of sectors (institutional, recreation, education, residential, commercial, retail, healthcare)
- Assist in business development activities such as writing proposals, attending conferences, reviewing work plans
- Evaluate and assimilate design changes introduced by the client or project architect
- Coordinate the architectural design with other members of the design team along with engineering consultants and specialist design disciplines
- Manage multiple projects at the same time, with minimal supervision
- Assist in the preparation of deliverables (reports and drawings) at all project phases
- Support good practices and established policies on project delivery, quality control, and safety
- Continuously contribute to our team’s goal of delivering excellence – in design, project delivery and communication
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong BIM knowledge and Revit proficiency is a must
- Knowledge of additional modeling and design software such as Rhino, SketchUp, Twinmotion, Grasshopper is an asset
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and others
- Knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes
- Travel to small communities to conduct building condition assessments or construction progress reviews
- Proven technical understanding of building science and construction contracts
- Able to work effectively in managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with clients and design team members
Education and Experience
- The role requires a professional degree in Architecture and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
- Registered or ability to become registered as an Intern Architect with the Northwest Territories Association of Architects (NWTAA) or another Canadian Architects Association.
Typical office environment working with computers. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
