Your Opportunity
We have immediate opportunities for a Junior Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic Assessment, Permitting and Compliance team in Edmonton. The successful candidate will be a key team member in assessment, compliance, regulatory and planning-related projects, achieving quality report delivery in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects, including regulatory applications and permitting, environmental assessments and compliance audits.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Complete legislative/regulatory and policy reviews and updates, approval applications, environmental assessments and other reporting requirements related to environmental compliance
  • Carry out/provide support to more senior team members to complete environmental (and health and safety) compliance audits, including protocol development, audit planning and on-site auditing
  • Interact directly with internal and external clients and contribute to developing excellent relations with clients, regulators, and stakeholders
  • Carry-out office duties such as data collection, data management, analysis and interpretation, report preparation, and other general tasks
  • Ensure Health and Safety protocols are adhered to
  • Ensure QA/QC requirements and procedures are adhered to
  • Interact and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various federal, provincial, and municipal legislation (e.g., Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Water Act, Pipeline Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, National Energy Board Act, and related regulations)
  • Strong technical writing skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective verbal and presentation skills
  • Ownership and initiative – takes pride in work, accountable for completing tasks on time and budget, proactively looks for new/innovative solutions
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; likes “troubleshooting”
Education and Experience
Have a BSc or MSc in science or a related discipline from a recognized university with 2+ years of relevant professional experience (consulting experience is considered an asset)
Office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
