Junior Terrestrial Ecologist
Your Capabilities and Credentials
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Species identification expertise (e.g., trees and other plants, herptiles, birds)
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Enthusiasm for working in field and office settings
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Independent problem-solving abilities, and able to adapt to a changing work schedule
- Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
- Organization and time management skills
The following would be considered assets:
- Previous environmental consulting experience
- Previous experience conducting surveys for species at risk in Ontario
- Previous experience supporting environmental assessments and permitting
- Certification or experience applying Ecological Land Classification in Ontario
- Certification or experience applying the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System
- Experience applying the Significant Wildlife Habitat Technical Guide and Ecoregion Criteria Schedules
- Butternut Health Assessor certification
- Backpack electrofishing certification and other fisheries experience
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology or technical diploma in a related field is required as a minimum
Minimum of 1 year of professional experience as a terrestrial ecologist in Ontario

This is a contract position that is expected to run from May 1 to December 15, 2023 with a possibility of extension. Compensation to be determined based on experience.
