Your Opportunity

We are looking for an intermediate level marine scientist who has marine mammal expertise with specific experience in impact assessment and monitoring for underwater noise, vessel strike risk, incidental take, and distance sampling design and analysis. Candidates should be team players, self-motivated, good at multitasking, demonstrated leaders with mentoring experience, and able to think creatively and broadly across many disciplines within the marine sciences. Successful candidates will work in a team environment on environmental impact assessments, field survey design and analysis, environmental effects mitigation and monitoring programs, and permitting applications.

Office location in the US is negotiable.

Your Key Responsibilities

Opportunities exist to integrate into our marine service area at a local, national, and international level, and may include:

  • Work in offshore renewables, coastal resilience, oil and gas, ports and shipping, and marine science research projects. 
  • Tasks may include conducting or planning field work, data analysis, report and proposal writing and reviewing, preparing and delivering presentations, and business development.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Technical knowledge should include understanding of issues of concern for marine mammals.
  • You are a clear and effective communicator, good technical writer, proven team player, and have experience designing and implementing field programs and leading large marine projects.
  • Some travel may be required.

Required

  • Expertise in underwater noise, including understanding of current regulatory thresholds of interest for marine mammals, their calculation, and use in US permit applications (IHAs and LOAs), impact assessments, and monitoring programs.
  • Expertise in aerial or vessel-based distance sampling design and analysis.
  • Program management and/or business development skills

Preferred

  • Strong data analysis and interpretation capabilities with good statistical knowledge
  • Experience working with federal, state/provincial/territorial, and municipal regulatory agencies in the US or Canada
  • Consulting experience
  • Expertise or understanding of vessel strike risk assessment and impact considerations
  • Multi-disciplinary interests and experience

Education and Experience

  • Successful candidates will hold a minimum of a B.Sc. in marine sciences and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in a related position.
