Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Mining Practice is hiring a Mechanical Field Engineer to join our growing team in the Southwestern United States.
The selected candidate’s primary responsibility will be representing Stantec at client field sites. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project, and will perform a variety of tasks which may include preparing calculations, design sketches and concepts, report preparation, providing contractor direction, and other field work. Projects assigned may be broad, varied, and diverse in scope.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Exceptional skills in reading and interpreting flow sheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs), piping drawings, general arrangements, models, specifications, and related vendor data to facilitate the construction and installation process equipment and piping in a heavy industrial construction environment.
- Capable of determining field engineering solutions to direct construction.
- Engages in the development of a field designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Utilizes technologies in reviewing three-dimensional models of process mechanical systems
- Must be cable of “redlining” PID’s for communication to project stakeholders
- Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors for the mechanical discipline
- Participates in client project meetings and adds value to the work currently being implemented in the field
- Utilizes advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized process mechanical elements.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
- Provide home office mechanical engineering support in between active field assignments.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of relevant codes, standards, design guidelines, association manuals of practice, energy codes, and other pertinent codes relative to jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between various engineering deliverables, vendor data, RFIs, and contractor submittals.
- Strong knowledge of process mechanical systems, hydraulics, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, construction contractors and reviewing agencies.
- Possesses excellent time-management skills.
- Thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and ProjectWise.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer preferred but not required. Minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Assignment will require the candidate to be located at client site during construction for the duration of the project. Initial assignment is near Phoenix, Arizona.
