Your Opportunity

Stantec has an immediate opening for an experienced licensed Land Surveyor to join our Survey Team in the Columbus, OH office. In this role you will grow and develop a survey market for Ohio, including building a team to support the region. You will be part of Stantec’s North American Geospatial Services Practice, which provides the opportunity to stay abreast of the latest in geospatial practices and staying connected to other practitioners in this quickly evolving field. You will perform public record research and calculations to resolve property boundaries, ALTA’s, subdivision plats, easement exhibits and rights of way, manage construction staking services; will review survey technician’s work and serve as project manager on various sized survey projects within Ohio, and potentially surrounding regions in partnership with our regional geospatial team.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the technical aspects of projects.
  • Engages regularly with internal and external clients to discuss current projects, evaluate firm performance, and identify other business opportunities.
  • Serves as a team leader including aligning employee’s goals and objectives cross functionally. Coordinates activities of field crews, including providing job assignments, information, direction, and daily checking of work product.
  • Develop new clients and grow current business for Ohio.
  • Develop survey team for Ohio region as clients and business needs allow.
  • Assists with proposal preparation, project management, and final review for all surveys prepared (QA/QC).
  • Monitors projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients on technical matters.
  • Works directly with project team members, to include other registered surveyors, engineers, and technical and survey staff.
  • Writes descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.
  • Responsible for survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, abstracting title data, record drawings research, and client relations.
  • Sign and seal survey documents.
  • Assist other survey regions as needed.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Effective leader and communicator with team and clients.
  • Ability to grow, coach, and lead a team to support clients’ needs in the Ohio region. 
  • Excellent cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team, and training, coordinating, and leading others in accomplishing work activities.
  • Build a strong understanding of the Ohio sector, the Stantec’s business model, and where value and profit is created and lost.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced skills in survey processing software.
  • Well-developed understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of survey work.
  • Working knowledge of relevant technical software including but not limited to AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.
  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Demonstrates strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry.
  • Ability to complete appropriate safety trainings (such as railroad safety) as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the commitment and ability to build a safe work culture.
  • Valid Driver’s License 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geomatics, Surveying or related field & licensed by state/province in Land Surveying or equivalent licensure.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience; preferred 15 years of experience.

This position will have the opportunity to have a flexible work location, with majority of time spent in the office supporting direct staff.  

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
