Your Opportunity

We are looking to expand our Rocky Mountain region archaeological team (AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY, ID,  OR and WA). This position can be based out of any of our Rocky Mountain regional offices and will report to the Cultural Resources Principal based in the Denver office.  Work will take place throughout the mountain states and the Southwest, with potential opportunities in the Great Basin and Great Plains. This is an on-call position with the possibility of becoming a full-time position based on performance, professionalism, and the ability to work as a team member. The position is a field position with possible office work as needed and with occasional lab work. 

Your Key Responsibilities

Crew Chief – Safely supervise crews in the field, logistics, QA/QC all field forms and data collected in the field. Perform all duties with team concept in mind. Work well with Field Staff, Principal Investigators and GIS specialist. Be able to lead with confidence and follow when required.

Crew Chief Archaeologist Responsibilities:

  • Participate in identifying and recording areas of archeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sites.
  • Work closely with a Field Director/Supervisor to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management.
  • Appropriately collect field data.
  • Participate in field reconnaissance surveys (linear and block type)
  • Assist in archaeological impact assessments.
  • Assist in writing cultural reports and preparing site forms
  • Archaeological monitoring
  • Excavations

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Interest in Cultural Resource Management
  • Dedicated to following and promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Able to travel and work away from home 
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Self-starter

Education and Experience

A Bachelors degree in Anthropology or Archaeology is required.

Five years of field experience. 

Strong work ethic. 

Field school required.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Walk 10 miles per day with a 40lb pack. 

Knowledge of cultural regulations in multiple states.
