Your Opportunity

As a Payroll Analyst you will be a member of the Financial Services team and will report directly to the Director of the U.S. Payroll. This position will sit in our new Chandler, AZ office and be responsible for overseeing payroll tax responsibilities, responding to tax agencies, performing required audits, reconciling tax related reports, and providing tax guidance and training to Payroll staff.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes including federal, state, and local regulations as well as employment legislation.
  • Review and coordinate the resolution of all payroll tax notices from various agencies (federal, state, and local jurisdictions).

  • Complete and submit tax returns not processed by payroll tax vendor accurately and timely.

  • Lead and coordinate yearend, balancing wages, and timely processing for accurate W2s.

  • Register for state and local tax IDs

  • Communicate directly with tax agencies and tax provider, ADP, regarding tax inquiries.

  • Work with acquisition team on assessing special tax implications such as reconciling pre-acquired balances and W2 implications.

  • Documentation and maintenance of new processes.

  • The ability to test all forms of data and troubleshoot any inconsistences that require resolution.

  • The ability to audit, validate, analyze data from gross to net and ensure compliance has been achieved.

  • Analyze and audit records to ensure compliance to employment legislation.

  • Communicate information and ideas clearly to individuals and groups. Prepare correspondence.

  • Create ad-hoc reporting pertaining to Payroll system data; provide analysis of data, giving guidance and recommendation for updates and/or changes in policies and processes.

  • Leads and organizes payroll tax projects as necessary.

  • Ensure all tax related updates are fully tested and implemented in the payroll system.

  • Ensure the customer perspective is a driving force behind decision and activities. Provide information to employees on payroll related matters. Act as the point of contact for the department while providing excellent customer service.

  • Uses measurement methods to monitor progress toward goals.

  • Participate as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals. Contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of projects and initiatives.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge of both United States and Canada legislation an asset.

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience of Oracle EBS Payroll, Oracle HRMS, and Oracle Time and Labor a plus.

  • Extensive working knowledge of payroll and financial information systems.

  • Experience with various report writing tools.

  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommended solutions.

  • Highly proficient with MS Office products including advanced Excel.

  • Excellent verbal written communication skills.

  • Able to represent the payroll department in a professional and positive manner at all employee levels within Stantec, with newly acquired companies, and with industry peers and clients.

  • Liaison to field, internal personnel, and interdepartmental staff to resolve escalated payroll issues and inquiries.

Education and Experience

APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.

3–5 years of payroll experience with emphasis on payroll tax for large scale company's.

Knowledge of all aspects of a full cycle payroll is required.

Strong knowledge of multi-state taxation and legislation.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
