Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools (e.g. Excel with @RISK and Power BI,  MATLAB/Octave Statistics toolbox) 
  • Strong programming skills in high-level scripting languages (e.g., Excel VBA, MATLAB/Octave, Python).
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm in applying mathematics and statistics to help make critical engineering decisions.
  • Aptitude to acquire new technical (engineering, statistics) and soft (social, communication, critical thinking) skills.
  • Strong verbal & written communication (information organization, professional presentation, technical writing).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with stakeholders. This includes the ability to effectively interact with peers and stakeholders in both formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to perform self-motivated tasks and pro-active stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver thorough technical analysis and recommendations.
  • Strong conviction and values in engineering safety and integrity.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug & alcohol screen.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical,   or chemical engineering (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 4 years of engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Advanced data analytics;
      • Pipeline integrity related projects and programs;
      • Reliability analysis including statistical analysis, results interpretation, system modelling, etc.; and/or
      • Research-related projects requiring review of industry literature, interpretation of a variety data types, and generation of conclusions and recommendations based on findings.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge in statistical tools (e.g., Excel with @Risk & Power BI, MATLAB/Octave Statistics toolbox).
  • Over 2 years of work experience in engineering in one or more of the following areas: 
    • Reliability analysis, probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), statistics & analytics, advanced modeling (FEA)
    • Structural reliability models (e.g., historical index-based, quantitative Monte Carlo)
    • Asset integrity (e.g., pipeline, facility) applications (e.g., risk-based inspection, repair recommendation)
    • Development projects involving literature review, solution strategy, and communication of findings
    • Supporting safety-critical engineering decisions using information derived from probability & statistics
  • Graduate degree in engineering (e.g., civil, mechanical, chemical) from a recognized university.
  • Journal and conference publications related to probabilistic/quantitative risk and reliability analysis.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) from American Society of Quality (ASQ).

 

Typical office environment working with computers at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
