Process Designer

Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Process Designer to join our Process Engineering group in the Bakersfield, California office or optionally to be located in our Pasadena or Houston offices. You will work with close guidance and supervision to execute tasks and support Senior Process Engineers, designers and drafters on related tasks and projects. A Process Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include design, equipment specification, data sheets, calculations, and field work.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
- Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Assists with the development of technical equipment specifications required for a project.
- Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
- Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
- Performs calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Ability to perform on-site design services, and field engineering work.
- Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team to ensure compatibility with design intent.
- Understand and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
- Execute process and mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
- Appropriate application of codes and standards (both legislated and customer-specific).
- Develop the design basis memorandum (DBM).
- Proficiency on Process Simulation through commercial software.
- Develop PFD (Process flow Diagrams) diagrams.
- Good knowledge on developing P&ID's (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Be familiar with material selection diagrams.
- Develop process data sheet for safety valves, control valves and flow meters.
- Perform calculations to specify equipment, i.e., Pumps, Compressors, Separators, Heaters, Heat Exchangers, Columns, etc.
- Prepare process data sheets and specifications for equipment procurement.
- Perform Hydraulic Calculations, through commercial software.
- Work with Controls Engineers to develop the control philosophy and cause and effect charts.
- Interface with clients and other discipline personnel internally to finalize the design.
- Be familiar with Hazop Evaluation.
- Provide support during operating procedures development.
- Ensure all work is completed with safety of paramount concern.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Oil & Gas Upstream involving production surface facilities & treatment.
- Familiarity with Energy Transition projects such as Hydrogen Fueling Station design, Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS).
- Experience and knowledge of industrial and commercial related mechanical project work a plus.
- Success working within specified budgets and schedules and meeting corporate and project quality requirements.
- Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, Word, Power point, etc.)
- Strong desire to learn and work in a team environment.
- Familiarity with industry standards and applicable ASME, API, ANSI, NACE codes and standards.
- Working knowledge of process simulation software: HYSYS, Pro-II, and Pro-max
- Working knowledge of hydraulics software: Pipe Phase, Pipe-Flo, Pipe-Sim, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, AFT Arrow.
- Working knowledge of Google Earth, Bluebeam Vu, Navisworks, AutoCAD viewer tools.
- Working knowledge of: PHA Pro, Vessel Rating, Heat Exchanger rating, etc.
- Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
- Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug screen.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. 2-5 years of oil and gas, or related, industry experience. Working experience in Upstream (production) oil & gas background a plus but will consider those with downstream (refining), carbon capture design, hydrogen fueling station design or other related industrial experience.
Typical office environment working with computers at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
