Process Engineer - Hybrid

The process engineering group at Stantec, located in Minneapolis (Plymouth, MN), works on various industrial processes, food and beverage, chemical, agricultural, and other manufacturing projects. From retrofit/upgrade projects to brownfield additions, to complete greenfield facility installations, we partner with clients through all phases of the project lifecycle to deliver high quality designs and outcomes.
Your Opportunity
As a Process Engineer, you will support our clients and project teams being responsible for process design through the life cycle of projects from initial project definition through commissioning and start up. You will be an individual contributor to process design activities and at other times you may be responsible for overseeing other engineers on design activities.

Reporting Relationships
This role will report internally to the group manager but will have other “soft” lines of reporting to the project managers for projects that you are working on. Although you will not have any direct reports, you may be responsible for overseeing other team members on project related activities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to development of technical proposals.
- Responsible for the design of process and related mechanical utility (PMU) systems as an individual contributor and possibly with oversight of a project team.
- Develop and maintain hourly budgets for PMU related project work.
- Contribute to development and updating of schedule for PMU related project work.
- Collaborate and coordinate with clients and team members including other disciplines and project management to execute projects.
- Ensure quality assurance of PMU related work and other project procedures are followed.
- Mentor more junior team members to impart engineering knowledge and problem-solving approaches.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of relevant design experience, preferably within the design services industry.
- Experience in the development of technical documents pertaining to PMU systems including but not limited to, design memorandums, mass & energy balance, flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Knowledge of design codes, standards, and best practices applicable to PMU systems including but not limited to NFPA and ASME.
- Experience with front-end loading (FEL) or similar stage gate engineering approaches.
- Experience with oilseed processing, food plants, or RNG is a plus.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with both clients and project team members, with a strong customer service attitude.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Must be able to travel regionally, conduct short overnight trips, or other.
Capabilities and Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Active Professional Engineer Licensure in good standing is a plus.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
It is desired for this person to commute as needed to the office located in Plymouth MN, however potential for partial or full remote work either in state or out of state is possible for the right candidate.
Indoor (Office Environment) Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Noise level varies but generally at levels of conversation. Majority of time spent using a computer/laptop at a workstation and related office equipment. Time spent carrying, reaching, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 9 kilograms / 20 pounds Occasional – 1-33% of shift. Subject to extended periods of sitting; may be required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk short to moderate distances to perform work. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment if needed.
