Your Opportunity
The Project Architect will be overseeing the project development, delivery, and performance in terms quality, and client satisfaction. The role primarily involves collaborating directly with the principal-in-charge of design and the management team members for the project development and execution. In this role you may be a primary client and consultant project leader along with the leadership of the internal team and external consultants while working with the Project Manager in interfacing with the client and team. Project Architect’s may oversee the development one or more projects and teams of various complexity and scope. Which requires a team focused leadership position with a broad set of experience and knowledge. This is a leadership role that requires oversight, guidance and mentoring of others.
Your Key Responsibilities
You will support all aspects of the project process from validation/pre-design through construction administration and close-out for projects serving community colleges and university campus projects from the initial planning, pre-design through project completion Coordination with consultants, contractors, and Owners can be a part of your weekly activities to manage projects. Project Architects often contribute and support multiple projects at any time, within various phases of design and construction. This position requires an onsite presence as needed in a co-location setting with the Project Team thru the design and construction phases.
- Responsible for development of projects of large, medium, and smaller projects varying in complexity/size.
- Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence both internally and externally.
- Develop the planning and building design from both a functional and in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, and program.
- Develop a design from sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups.
- Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
- Participate in design critiques and constructability reviews.
- Preparation of presentation materials with the Design Principal, Project Manager to stakeholders during early project phases.
- Preparation of documents as required for required agency submittals, coordination of the architect and consultant teams, and approvals.
- Develop site planning, space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program.
- Evaluate and select building systems and materials.
- Coordinate building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the design and environment.
- Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts.
- Responsible for leading others in project team setting and design critiques and pin-ups.
- Travel between California Stantec offices for project and practice development purposes
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Engage in creative and critical thought.

- Lead one or more teams on medium size projects through the development of design concept.
- Check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule.
- Interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
- Present abstract ideas to the client and client representatives.
- Apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
- Lead a highly collaborative BIM delivery strategy.
- General knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards.
- Development and preparation of drawings and specifications.
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma
- Experience with leading and implementation of Lean Tools.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
- Licensure within California as a Registered Architect
- Minimum 6+ years of experience, with education and/or institutional clients and an understanding of working with the California Division of the State Architect, all State facilities agencies, as well as local and county agencies
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
