Your Opportunity
Stantec’s urban planning and design studio in Calgary is growing across western Canada and we are leading an increasing amount of high profile and complex planning and development projects with multi-disciplinary and integrated service offerings. This includes downtown and established area master plans and strategies, mixed-use and residential master plans, public realm master plans, intermunicipal planning and servicing strategies, business case development, and transit oriented development.
We are seeking an experienced planning/design professional who relishes complex project delivery, working with large teams, driving project outcomes, and has an excellent understanding of the entire development process.
Your focus in this role will be leading projects and strategy, managing client interface, and bringing your subject matter expertise to inform and offer value to our clients. Working with other members of the team, you will also have the opportunity to act as a resource and mentor and support their continued growth within the planning profession. As a 26,000 person interdisciplinary firm, the business opportunities within Stantec are endless. At the same time, our planning and design team in the Calgary office totals thirteen staff which provides for a close working environment.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead, plan, and direct the work throughout the life of a project to successfully deliver to the client.
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships and play a key role in client management and satisfaction.
- Manage complex and comprehensive planning and development projects, including Outline Plans, Development Permits, redevelopment and neighbourhood plans and strategies, and municipal policy projects.
- Utilize your knowledge of provincial and local planning policy in the preparation and management of planning, policy, and urban design studies.
- Organize and support public consultation programs including making recommendations of key findings to the client.
- Support business development and marketing key initiatives including strategic planning, opportunity identification, proposal pursuit and preparation, client liaison, preparation of on-line marketing content and social media monitoring.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical aspects of projects for the team.
- Supervise, coordinate and review the work of other professionals who assist in specific assignments.
- Interface directly with clients and provide clear, well-articulated and solution-oriented recommendations.
- Demonstrate active coaching skills when interacting with other team members.
- Create and maintain relationships with other practice areas to promote cross-selling and interdisciplinary work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to lead complex community, land, and site development and planning tasks.
- Strong client management and communication skills.
- Highly effective in assembling and leading multi-discipline teams.
- Comprehensive understanding of land use and development processes, applicable government regulations and planning policy/theory.
- In-depth knowledge of planning policies and processes in Alberta, specifically in the Calgary region.
- Experience presenting before Planning Commissions and Councils.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
- Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects, PMP accreditation an asset.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office suite.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in Planning.
- 7 years of experience in public and private sector community planning
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary projects.
- Full CIP/APPI membership.
