Your Opportunity

We have an immediate opportunity within our Water practice in the Carolinas for a Project Manager to pursue and manage municipal and industrial projects including water, wastewater, and stormwater conveyance and treatment facilities and related civil infrastructure.  The successful candidate will use their management and technical abilities to manage a team of water professionals to win, manage, and deliver projects involving the planning and design of a wide array of civil and water resources projects, with the goals of:

  • Delivering high quality products/outcomes
  • Meeting financial and timeline performance requirements
  • Achieving client satisfaction

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Management and successful pursuit of water-related projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage and pursue project(s) or tasks within a larger project. Manage and lead other team members while working on projects, complete tasks and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
  • Mentor and supervise staff and develop high-performing project teams.
  • Participate in marketing efforts and business development including relationship development, proposal preparation and participation in interviews. 
  • Interact with clients and management regarding status of project scope, schedule, and budget 
  • Apply and share experience/knowledge of planning and design expertise.
  • Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects. 
  • Prepare project deliverables and ensure that projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform calculations, report preparation, process study, research investigations, preparation of plans and specifications and other activities requiring knowledge of principles and techniques for a variety of projects with a focus on water/wastewater treatment and conveyance, storm water management, regulatory compliance, low impact development (LID) design, and green infrastructure.
  • Develop engineering conclusions for data analysis.
  • Determine the permitting requirements for the particular type of work being designed for the location in which it is to be constructed. Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meetings with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel and governing entities.
  • Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Interact directly with clients to gather information and discuss project requirements.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Assign tasks to and coordinates work of project technical team.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Exceptional working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, technical writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take on larger, more complex tasks.
  • Ownership and accountability for team deliverables.
  • Existing local client relationships.
  • Possesses excellent time management skills thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
  • Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Possesses team leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills are preferred.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer  
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience. 

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
