Your Opportunity:

The Strategic Execution Advisor (Advisor) will be part of the Strategic Development & Implementation services (Strategy) team responsible for acting as an advisory subject matter expert in strategic engagement, development and implementation services.  In addition, the Advisor will manage new and existing projects, and leading multi-disciplinary technical staff in a matrix organization to successful completion of projects.

To achieve this the Advisor will focus on electrical utilities, Independent Power Producers, governmental/legislative, municipal, institutional, and industrial markets.  The Advisor will be responsible for executing the delivery of strategic advisory and/or technical projects, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement. Similarly, the Advisor will contribute to business development efforts (bid participation, proposal preparation, project estimating, client engagements, event participation), and lead or participate in strategic development or execution of initiatives throughout the Strategic Advisory Services (Strategic Advisory) team and greater Stantec organization.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Manager of the Strategic Planning & Implementation and other Strategic Advisory Services (SAS) team Managers to implement the strategic direction and impact of the SAS group across markets, including:
  • Continuous refinement, and delivery of SAS team’s portfolio and value propositions in accordance with changing policy and regulatory, technological, organizational and business model landscapes.
  • Supporting opportunities requiring premium-rate services with exceptional value delivery over commoditized opportunities
  • Consistently deliver the SAS team’s high-value, premium client experience from initial bid through project closeout.
  • Support the integration of Strategic Planning & Implementation value propositions into other pillars of the SAS team, and vice versa.
  • Support the planning and execution activities of the Strategic Planning & Implementation expansion strategy across sectors engaging with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Manager, Strategic Planning & Implementation executing business development strategy and internal and external outreach activities to drive business line expansion.
  • Remain informed on relevant Stantec business lines ‘current state’ to identify opportunities for collaboration and expansion strategies.
  • Serve as a project manager for projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk in compliance with Stantec’s PM framework including the following:
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work with advisory and/or technical staff to establish project objectives, procedures and performance standards.
  • Exercise initiative in addressing problem situations and resolve most project delivery related matters.
  • Manage contract tasks, track and manage costs and schedule, and implement measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget utilizing established project management procedures within Stantec.
  • Develop and foster client relationships to facilitate project activities.
  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub- contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management.
  • Participate with multi-disciplinary teams through proposals, feasibility work all the way to final designs, and construction support as required by the projects.
  • Act as account manager and/or account team member for assigned key accounts, leading and collaborating to account growth plans, including developing pull-through plans for other SAS teams and technical services.
  • Work with marketing support to contribute to marketing campaigns for the Strategic Planning & Implementation business.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the group representing it at appropriate industry conferences, speaking engagements, and other external industry related events.

Your Capabilities & Credentials:

  • Proficient regulatory and policy experience in core Canadian electrical utility and energy markets, with detailed understanding of how regulation and policy decisions impact energy stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with stakeholders in core Canadian electrical utility and energy markets, with a strong understanding of how regulation and policy decisions impact energy stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to translate labor market insights into actionable workforce development programs aligned with regulatory and business objectives.
  • Detailed understanding of electrical utility industry and other energy-focused and energy-intensive organizations operations, business and/or strategic needs and requirements.
  • Proven expertise in integrating workforce strategies into energy transition projects to address staffing challenges, skills gaps, and diversity goals.
  • Experience managing and producing critical, regulatory-grade documents and consulting services to withstand scrutiny from C-Suite/Senior Executives, Investors, and Regulatory/Agency stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Experienced in project management, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project and change management as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage long-term projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining project/program execution excellence.
  • Demonstrated successful experience/knowledge in decision making, as well as assessing, evaluating and solving project management challenges.
  • Familiarity with delivery of high-volume design projects as well as KPI development to measure design and team performance.
  • A highly intelligent contributor with superb communication and interpersonal skills who prioritizes the development of trust and authenticity among their team.
  • Collaborative, strong team orientation well-suited to executing through mandate or influence to build consensus within a global organization.
  • Travel to other offices as well as to project sites will be required.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 - 10 years of consulting or client-side experience energy industry project management experience, ideally with a mix of utility, developer, constructors, regulators, and Transmission and Distribution System Operators (TSO’s and DSO’s).
  • Relevant Degree in Communications, Business or Engineering.
  • Ability to translate advanced business and technical considerations into regulatory grade or business development quality documentation to support strategic implementation across stakeholders.
  • Advanced industry certifications for project management and/or asset management considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home). Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
