Your Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Associate, Structural Engineer to join our integrated buildings practice. This position will contribute to Stantec's success by planning, executing, and managing projects ranging from $30 million to over $200 million in construction values. This role is expected to use sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and effective tools and techniques to execute and deliver projects. You will be a senior contributor on our professional Buildings/AE team and will work independently to assist clients from the beginning through the end of a project. Your experience ensures that you are capable of managing the clients, contracts, technical team, project finance, and schedules, as well as supporting the project pursuit efforts, led by the principals. You will lead the development of integrated design proposals, including design-build and design-bid-build projects, develop, and manage integrated work plans, manage project financials, and coordinate with clients while leading others and collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables.
Your Key Responsibilities
The role of a Senior Associate, Structural Engineer is to lead work on medium and large projects, and to manage and grow a team of Structural Engineers supporting local and national projects. The Senior Associate, Structural Engineer will be able to evaluate, select, and specify engineered systems or products for a project. Additional responsibilities include:
- Develop business locally and regionally for all disciplines
- Responsible for managing complex tasks on medium-to large-size projects ($30 Million to over $200 Million in construction values)
- Responsible for delivering quality documents.
- Plan, organize, and direct the work throughout the life of the project to successfully deliver the project to the client.
- Keep the Principal in Charge informed of progress on project expectations, potential issues, deadlines, and deliverables; understand the levels of the decision-making responsibilities of the role as a Sr. Project Manager.
- Maintain client relationship.
- Lead the client and project team to assure that the project design meets the client budget, schedule, program, and design intent.
- Assist the Principal-in-Charge in the negotiation and development of project agreements.
- Develop and manage project budget, schedule, and overall work plan to realize target financial performance.
- Oversee development of building documentation in modeling software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD
- Mentor Assistant Project Managers and motivate project teams.
- Assure that Project Management Framework tasks are timely completed and properly documented.
- Lead project coordination and owner/site meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.
- Manage and track change orders, applications for payment by contractors and other contractual modifications impacting budget and schedule.
- Work with Operations Manager in determining project staffing needs and recommending personnel.
- Directs client invoicing and effectively manages collections.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
- Strong knowledge of structural systems, seismic design, construction means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- Deep understanding and working knowledge the following building systems: steel framing including lateral systems for seismic (braced frames, BRBF, SPSW, etc.), concrete framing including lateral systems for seismic (shear walls and moment frames), wood framing, timber.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form concepts and ideas to a diverse audience of Architects, Engineers, and Owner clients effectively
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
- Experience with modeling software (Autodesk Revit)
- Experience with general business software (Microsoft Office suite)
- Experience with industry standard Structural Engineering software (CSI, RISA, RAM, etc.)
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
Education and Experience
- 12+ years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, master’s degree preferred
- California Professional Engineering license is required, California Structural Engineering license is preferred.
