Your Opportunity

As a Structural Engineer on our transportation team, you will be a part of Stantec’s dynamic group of over 500 bridge engineers who are responsible for expanding our bridge engineering and working on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects.  This position includes performing a variety of tasks which may include development of construction plans and specifications, calculations, quality reviews, proposal and technical writing and project management in our Rochester, New York office.

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead bridge design projects of varying size and complexity through all phases of design.
  • Develop design plans, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Prepare, check, and deliver engineering calculations, reports, and technical studies.
  • Guide and mentor junior and intermediate staff.
  • Build a strong culture of quality design and teamwork.
  • Assist with or lead bridge inspection and load rating assignments.
  • Carry out constructability reviews during the design of conventionally procured projects.
  • Develop and present information to clients and the public.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
  • Additional duties may include assisting the transportation leadership with project pursuits and proposal preparation.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of NYSDOT design standards and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Bridge design specifications.
  • Experience in a bridge engineering technical lead role.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Effective verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, MathCAD, & Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using bridge design and analysis software
  • Experience with bridge inspection and load rating.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues, and solutions to others

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer required, Master’s degree in Structural Engineering desired. Minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Position will primarily be in an office setting; may require some field work. The ability to work some from home will be extended to the candidate once in-office working relationships are established.
