Your Opportunity
Stantec's Program Management Construction Management Group is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to work on large, complex transportation construction projects with construction values more than $500M. This position requires onsite in Honolulu, HI.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Ensures Construction Managers are implementing corporate best practices, standards, and quality management framework and appropriately using Intellectual Property (IP) and reuse.
- Active engagement in the CM Community for opportunities to share experiences and mentor CM staff.
- Captures and documents lessons learned.
- Actively engaged in recruitment of key construction staff by screening resumes, interviewing prospective candidates and coordinating with HR professionals in designing employment offers.
- Supervises Design Phase constructability and construction sequencing reviews
- Oversees Bid Phase for design-bid-build projects including preparation of pre-bid meeting agendas, presenting at pre-bid meetings, tracking bid period questions from Contractors, coordinating with discipline engineers for responses to bid period questions, preparing and issuing contract addenda, reviewing and summarizing Contractor bids, and recommending award of contract to client.
- Manages team during the preconstruction phase, approving procedures, tools and practices, and reviewing contract documents, for preparation and implementation of construction phase construction management services.
- Manages multiple large complex initiatives and/or projects simultaneously.
- Oversees day-to-day construction management efforts to ensure the project(s) are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Enforces contractor compliance to plans and specifications.
- Acts as the primary interface with client, oversight representatives, regulatory agencies, etc. Coordinates with field staff, third party consultants, utility companies, public agencies, sub-contractors, and general public. Serves as a representative of the company and its clients at meetings, presentations, and public hearings relative to assigned projects.
- Monitors progress and delays of contractor’s project schedule.
- Reviews daily inspection reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews material test reports for compliance with specifications.
- Oversees coordination with other disciplines associated with the project.
- Plans and coordinates activities of company and consultant personnel on assigned project(s).
- Works effectively with the project team to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Reviews plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings, change orders and pay applications (QA/QC).
- Implements company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to properly.
- Follows Company Safety Program. Assures that fellow employees follow safe work practices and use company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. Works in a manner to ensure personal safety and that fellow employees by implementing company health and safety guidelines, practices and policies.
- Oversees post-construction phase, preparing and submitting final deliverables, reviewing final pay request and punchlists, recommending final completion, tracking of warranties and preparation of final invoicing.

- Technical expert in all relevant areas of planning, analysis, construction and systems management, and understanding of various project delivery methods.
- Accountable for making decisions on large complex projects.
- Inspires project teams to higher levels of achievement.
- Highly effective in managing sub-consultants and equipment suppliers/vendors.
- Demonstrates technical skills identifying scope changes and risk management.
- Holds professional licensure or holds construction manager certification (CCM) or ability to obtain.
Education and Experience
- Degree in construction management or engineering (civil) or other related engineering field with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience or technical school 2-year degree/diploma in a related program with a minimum 12-14 years.
- At least 4 to 5 years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of a wide range of medium to complex projects including Alternate Project Delivery (APD).
- Experience working on large complex projects with construction value in excess of $500M (transit experience preferred)
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
